On the initial release of the radically overhauled, Giovanni Michelotti designed, Triumph TR4 – the Carpets in the car were one of the most obvious interior parts to see some changes. One of these updates was in the outer footwell areas directly in front of the door panels. These “A” Posts, as they are known, now had a fibre kick panel fixed to the bodywork of the car. These millboard panels were originally covered in carpet to match the main carpet set; and the kick board panel on the drivers side would have featured a small “D” shaped heel pad sewn to it.

Here are John Skinners – we provide the actual carpet for recovering this panel as part of our main carpet set kits. However, if you are looking for just the untrimmed blanks, or perhaps you just want to replace your worn trimmed carpet kickboards – then we can offer a solution for either.

As with all of our other patterns and panels – we have templated the design of this panel from the original factory line cars. We sell 100s of these per year to clients all over the world – so you can rest assured that we know they suit the purpose! Due to our in-depth knowledge of these cars, owing to John owning various TRs over the years; we have also made updates to these backing panels to make them more versatile between the models. Cut from automotive-grade hardboard, these panels include fixing hole pilot guides, cut-outs for wires – and for the bonnet release on the later models. With these various inclusions, these panels are suitable for all the TR4 to TR6 cars.

Mark Macys own TR4 came in second place, at the same show – also with JSM trimmed fitted.
  • Access to help and advice when it comes time to fit these kits – we have been making and fitting these same parts for a long time – we know all the tricks, and we are more than happy to assist you or your trimmer should you get stuck. As noted above, John himself has used this part on a number of his own TRs, so we are well versed in the fitment process.

Please note that the colour names refer to internal John Skinner Ltd names, not necessarily the names Triumph originally used for these colours.

Due to industry-wide inconsistencies in production and record-keeping, it is widely accepted that the interpretation of original shades varies depending on who you ask. As a result, John Skinner Ltd offers multiple “original” shade options for you to make your final choice from. Below is a list of these accepted “original” colour choices that John Skinners can offer for your Triumph restoration project.

Due to the range of products we offer, and our worldwide customer base, we can only calculate an accurate shipping cost once Your Quote has been received by our Sales Team. As there is no payment required at this stage – use our online shop in full confidence, with zero commitment to purchase – and send us your Quotation request for your interior trim requirements; and we will get in touch directly with you with an updated Quote, which will include the shipment costs.

In the meantime, basic guideline shipping costs are outlined below.

(For all non-UK shipments – the final price per box depends on the size of the box – which is dictated by the items in your final selection)

UK: £10.50 – £20 per box

Europe & European Union: £20 – £120 per box

North America & Canada: £28.50 – £125 per box

Rest of World: £42.50 – £200 per box

Generally speaking, a complete car interior kit (Trim Panels, Carpets, Seat Covers, Boot/Trunk area, Soft Top Hoods etc) normally requires 2 x FULL Size Boxes, with some cars needing slightly less, and some slightly more.

Please note that these prices are exclusive of VAT (UK Customers ONLY) and any additional customs or handling charges that may be incurred during shipping. These prices are given as an approximation only.

For further information about shipping, and to learn more about how our shipping costs are calculated, please read our Shipping and Delivery guide.

Brexit

You can read a full guide to Brexit and JSM here.

To briefly summarise the details…

As of January 2021, the UK is no longer part of the European Union (EU). As a result, several changes have been implemented which affects how EU based customers now purchase things from the UK. Here is a brief overview…

The UK Value Added Tax (VAT @ 20%) is no longer applicable to any customers purchasing from outside the UK, assuming these goods leave the UK. To clarify, no VAT (20%) will be charged on initial purchase for any goods leaving the UK.

Instead your local country tax is charged upon importation into that country. This is based on the value of the goods as stated on the customs Invoice we supply. For most European countries – the result of this change is minimal as most local taxes range between 17% and 22% for the large majority of EU based countries. Note that some countries have lower tax rates, and others have higher, this is purely a guideline.

You will be contacted by a customs official upon arrival of the parcels to the destination country – and they will request payment of these taxes.

All shipping agents levy a small administration charge for “clearing customs” normally of a value around €5 – €10.

Our products are 100% UK Manufactured, therefore our products are Tariff/Duty free – meaning that you should not incur additional tariff charges upon importation. It should be noted that we use the HS Commodity Code (Tariff Code) 8708.99.9790 “Parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of headings 8701 to 8708 > Other Parts…” – for the majority of the kits that we supply.

For any Trade or Wholesale Customers – if you provide us with your EORI number – then this is noted at the point of import, allowing you to claim back the Tax from your local government when you issue you tax returns.
