The Dash facia panels on the early Triumph TR models were upholstered in a matching material and colour to the other panels and seats – making them a main focal point of the interior trim. With years of constant exposure to the sun, these areas often require restoring and should be done at the very start of any interior restoration to allow for re-wiring of the dash to take place. Available in a variety of materials and colours – please see below for more in-depth descriptions, videos, and frequently asked questions (FAQs).

The dashboard facia panel on the Triumph Tr2 to TR3Bs remained very consistent during the 9 year production period. The metal facia panel was always upholstered in a material to match the other interior trim panels and seats. This also included a matching material to re-cover the dash cubby box (“glove box”) lid door situated on the passenger side of the car. The centre instrument dial panel was also covered in matching material for most cars – however, not all, with some early cars leaving the production line with a crinkle paint finish in this area.

This Dash Facia Panel Re was originally covered in Vynide (Leathercloth) from the factory production line. Commonly these days, this material is superseded with Vinyl (Ambla), although Leathercloth (Vynide) is still available if requested (colour dependent). Unlike other cappings in the car, including the Dash Top Scuttle Capping, which was trimmed in leather as a factory option – very few cars would have left with Leather dash facia covers – and if they did, this would have been a special order item. Note when “Leather” is mentioned on the heritage certificates, this is often referring to the Seats and some of the other Cappings around the cockpit of the car. See our FAQs for more information.

Here at John Skinners we have developed and supplied pre-sewn material covers to easily re-upholster your original Dashboard Facia panel. Templated from original panels, and with decades worth of practical experience in re-trimming these specific parts – our covers are designed with the end result of quality in mind. The kit includes two pieces of pre-cut material to re-upholster the Glove “Cubby” Box Lid and the Centre Instrument Panel. It also includes the main Dash Facia cover which features sewing and top-stitch detailing around the section for the steering wheel column. Unlike the majority of other suppliers in the industry – John Skinners can also offer this part in Leather – already “skived” down to make it more suitable for purpose (easier to trim!). Skiving, or the thinning of leather, is a process to reduce the thickness by slicing away a layer of the “flesh” underside. This finish is especially useful for areas that are to be folded around edges which require a consistently thin material to allow for the optimal fitment in the car. It is this detailed knowledge of these parts through decades of supplying kits, and our investment in machinery such as our leather skiving machine that has allowed us to improve the options available to our customers without compromising on suitability to the purpose for the cars. Just one of the reasons why John Skinner Ltd remains the industry leader when it comes to quality and workmanship of the interior trim and upholstery for the Triumph TRs.

Due to industry-wide inconsistencies in production and record-keeping, it is widely accepted that the interpretation of original shades varies depending on who you ask. As a result, John Skinner Ltd offers multiple “original” shade options for you to make your final choice from. Below is a list of these accepted “original” colour choices that John Skinners can offer for your Triumph restoration project.

Due to the range of products we offer, and our worldwide customer base, we can only calculate an accurate shipping cost once Your Quote has been received by our Sales Team. As there is no payment required at this stage – use our online shop in full confidence, with zero commitment to purchase – and send us your Quotation request for your interior trim requirements; and we will get in touch directly with you with an updated Quote, which will include the shipment costs.

In the meantime, basic guideline shipping costs are outlined below.

(For all non-UK shipments – the final price per box depends on the size of the box – which is dictated by the items in your final selection)

UK: £10.50 – £20 per box

Europe & European Union: £20 – £120 per box

North America & Canada: £28.50 – £125 per box

Rest of World: £42.50 – £200 per box

Generally speaking, a complete car interior kit (Trim Panels, Carpets, Seat Covers, Boot/Trunk area, Soft Top Hoods etc) normally requires 2 x FULL Size Boxes, with some cars needing slightly less, and some slightly more.

Please note that these prices are exclusive of VAT (UK Customers ONLY) and any additional customs or handling charges that may be incurred during shipping. These prices are given as an approximation only.

Brexit

You can read a full guide to Brexit and JSM here.

To briefly summarise the details…

As of January 2021, the UK is no longer part of the European Union (EU). As a result, several changes have been implemented which affects how EU based customers now purchase things from the UK. Here is a brief overview…

The UK Value Added Tax (VAT @ 20%) is no longer applicable to any customers purchasing from outside the UK, assuming these goods leave the UK. To clarify, no VAT (20%) will be charged on initial purchase for any goods leaving the UK.

Instead your local country tax is charged upon importation into that country. This is based on the value of the goods as stated on the customs Invoice we supply. For most European countries – the result of this change is minimal as most local taxes range between 17% and 22% for the large majority of EU based countries. Note that some countries have lower tax rates, and others have higher, this is purely a guideline.

You will be contacted by a customs official upon arrival of the parcels to the destination country – and they will request payment of these taxes.

All shipping agents levy a small administration charge for “clearing customs” normally of a value around €5 – €10.

Our products are 100% UK Manufactured, therefore our products are Tariff/Duty free – meaning that you should not incur additional tariff charges upon importation. It should be noted that we use the HS Commodity Code (Tariff Code) 8708.99.9790 “Parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of headings 8701 to 8708 > Other Parts…” – for the majority of the kits that we supply.

For any Trade or Wholesale Customers – if you provide us with your EORI number – then this is noted at the point of import, allowing you to claim back the Tax from your local government when you issue you tax returns.
