After the overhaul of the Triumph TRs in the early 1960s with a somewhat radical redesign by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti, the majority of the interior trim items were also completely updated. The overall body shape of the cars remained fairly consistent from the TR4s of the early 1960s, all the way through to the TR6s of the 1970s. This meant that the covers used to cover the cockpit wheel arch wheels behind the Seats remained the same for the fourteen year period of TR4 to TR6 cars. These were sewn material assembly covers which were then bonded directly to the metal bodywork of the chassis itself. There was a piping strip running from rear bulkhead to the rear floor pans, which define the shape and position of the material covers in the car.

These covers were originally supplied in Vynide (Leathercloth) from the factory production line. Commonly these days, this material is superseded with Vinyl (Ambla), although Leathercloth (Vynide) is still available if requested (colour dependent). Very few cars, if any, would have left with Leather covers – and if they did, this would have been a special order item. Note when “Leather” is mentioned on the heritage certificates, this is often referring to the Seats and some of the Cappings around the cockpit of the car. See our FAQs for more information. As with its predecessor – the Triumph TR4 models – and all proceeding models until the TR6 – used White piping on most of its panel upholstery areas, and Seat Covers, with possibly a few special orders cars leaving with matching or different coloured piping. With the introduction of the TR6 model, Triumph switched back to using the same colour piping as the main trim – as they had originally done with the TR2 models in the early 1950s. This piping was originally a soft pvc plastic – which is still available in white or black. We recommend that you read our FAQs section below for further information on the pipings available and its suitability to the purpose for certain parts.

Our rear wheel arch covers are templated using the original factory designs – and have used these to great effect for decades now. We have introduced subtle changes to improve suitability to the purpose; including the extending of the unsewn edges to allow for overlaps onto adjacent sections of the chassis – ensuring no bodywork is left exposed. We recommend that we manufacture using leathercloth (where available) for the piping sections, ensuring the piping beading is the correct size and not too bulky; and our piping core material is the correct rigidity to ensure that the shape of the trimmed wheel arch cover is maintained correctly. However, we can revert to the original soft plastic pvc piping if you prefer. It is attention to detail, even on the smallest of things, that has led us to become the industry leader when it comes to quality and workmanship of the interior trim and upholstery for the Triumph TRs.

Due to industry-wide inconsistencies in production and record-keeping, it is widely accepted that the interpretation of original shades varies depending on who you ask. As a result, John Skinner Ltd offers multiple “original” shade options for you to make your final choice from. Due to the range of products we offer, and our worldwide customer base, we can only calculate an accurate shipping cost once Your Quote has been received by our Sales Team. As there is no payment required at this stage – use our online shop in full confidence, with zero commitment to purchase – and send us your Quotation request for your interior trim requirements; and we will get in touch directly with you with an updated Quote, which will include the shipment costs.

In the meantime, basic guideline shipping costs are outlined below.

(For all non-UK shipments – the final price per box depends on the size of the box – which is dictated by the items in your final selection)

UK: £10.50 – £20 per box

Europe & European Union: £20 – £120 per box

North America & Canada: £28.50 – £125 per box

Rest of World: £42.50 – £200 per box

Generally speaking, a complete car interior kit (Trim Panels, Carpets, Seat Covers, Boot/Trunk area, Soft Top Hoods etc) normally requires 2 x FULL Size Boxes, with some cars needing slightly less, and some slightly more.

Please note that these prices are exclusive of VAT (UK Customers ONLY) and any additional customs or handling charges that may be incurred during shipping. These prices are given as an approximation only.

For further information about shipping, and to learn more about how our shipping costs are calculated, please read our Shipping and Delivery guide.

Brexit

You can read a full guide to Brexit and JSM here.

To briefly summarise the details…

As of January 2021, the UK is no longer part of the European Union (EU). As a result, several changes have been implemented which affects how EU based customers now purchase things from the UK. Here is a brief overview…

The UK Value Added Tax (VAT @ 20%) is no longer applicable to any customers purchasing from outside the UK, assuming these goods leave the UK. To clarify, no VAT (20%) will be charged on initial purchase for any goods leaving the UK.

Instead your local country tax is charged upon importation into that country. This is based on the value of the goods as stated on the customs Invoice we supply. For most European countries – the result of this change is minimal as most local taxes range between 17% and 22% for the large majority of EU based countries. Note that some countries have lower tax rates, and others have higher, this is purely a guideline.

You will be contacted by a customs official upon arrival of the parcels to the destination country – and they will request payment of these taxes.

All shipping agents levy a small administration charge for “clearing customs” normally of a value around €5 – €10.

Our products are 100% UK Manufactured, therefore our products are Tariff/Duty free – meaning that you should not incur additional tariff charges upon importation. It should be noted that we use the HS Commodity Code (Tariff Code) 8708.99.9790 “Parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of headings 8701 to 8708 > Other Parts…” – for the majority of the kits that we supply.

For any Trade or Wholesale Customers – if you provide us with your EORI number – then this is noted at the point of import, allowing you to claim back the Tax from your local government when you issue you tax returns.
