With the TR4″A” model, first launched in 1965, Triumph continued where they had left off with the TR4 model. Although this model saw the introduction of the Independent Rear Suspension – hence sometimes being referred to as a TR4 “IRS” – the interior trim and upholstery parts remained similar to that of earlier TR4 models. The rear b post wheel arch assembly “Quarter Panels” maintained the same look and finish as the TR4 versions – still using the HF/RF welding (High-Frequency/Radio-Frequency) technique to emboss the horizontal weld lines. However, there was one very prominent change related to the upper rear corners of this quarter assembly panel-  with the TR4A having deeper corners. This was to accommodate the changes made to the wheelarch bodywork tub. The earlier TR4 cars featured rounded/curved wheel arch, but for the TR4A models, these were flattened to allow for the bulkier Hood Frame metalwork to be stowed away – keeping it level with the rear deck area of the car. This change meant that the upper corners of the quarter panel were increased in depth to fill in this void left by the flattening of the tub. This change also had a knock-on effect on the outer corner shape of the adjacent Bulkhead Panel. It is worth keeping this in mind – as we have seen instances where the bodywork has been restored using a different rear tub – causing confusion when it came to the fitment of the interior panels. This same adapted shape was continued all the way through the end of the TR6 production run in the late 1970s; albeit with a change of design of the embossed lines taking place in 1970. As with its predecessor,  this panel also featured piping/beading on the leading edge of the panel – serving a dual purpose of not only improving the aesthetics of the inside of the car; but also for a practical purpose in helping to hide the gaps between panels and bodywork! Triumph, like many other marques of this generation, were masters of deception on their production lines!

The TR4A/TR5/TR250 models left the factory upholstered in a grained finish unsupported PVC material – often confused with Vynide (Leathercloth) which was used elsewhere in the cars. Commonly these days, this material is superseded with Vinyl (Ambla), although Leathercloth (Vynide) is still available if requested (colour dependent). Very few cars, if any, would have left with Leather panels – and if they did, this would have been a special order item. Note when “Leather” is mentioned on the heritage certificates, this is often only referring to the Seats. See our FAQs for more information. The piping, which was now included as standard on the most of the panels, was predominantly in White; with possibly a few special orders cars leaving with different coloured piping.

Our panels are templated using the original factory designs – and have been tried and tested for decades on thousands of cars around the world. We, at John Skinners, are also one of the only restorers in the world who can offer the original embossed HF pattern, which is a sentiment to our dedication to offering not only the best fitting items in the industry – but also the investment in the machinery and tooling to allow us to authentically reproduce the parts to the original specifications. In addition to this – we are also fully aware of the subtle, but essential difference in shape between the TR4 and TR4A/TR5/TR250/TR6 rear quarter casing assembly panels. This attention to detail and in-depth knowledge further goes to illustrate why we are considered the leading interior trim manufacturers for Triumph TRs, and have been for over 40 years now.

Due to industry-wide inconsistencies in production and record-keeping, it is widely accepted that the interpretation of original shades varies depending on who you ask. As a result, John Skinner Ltd offers multiple “original” shade options for you to make your final choice from. Below is a list of these accepted “original” colour choices that John Skinners can offer for your Triumph restoration project.

Due to the range of products we offer, and our worldwide customer base, we can only calculate an accurate shipping cost once Your Quote has been received by our Sales Team. As there is no payment required at this stage – use our online shop in full confidence, with zero commitment to purchase – and send us your Quotation request for your interior trim requirements; and we will get in touch directly with you with an updated Quote, which will include the shipment costs.

In the meantime, basic guideline shipping costs are outlined below.

(For all non-UK shipments – the final price per box depends on the size of the box – which is dictated by the items in your final selection)

UK: £10.50 – £20 per box

Europe & European Union: £20 – £120 per box

North America & Canada: £28.50 – £125 per box

Rest of World: £42.50 – £200 per box

Generally speaking, a complete car interior kit (Trim Panels, Carpets, Seat Covers, Boot/Trunk area, Soft Top Hoods etc) normally requires 2 x FULL Size Boxes, with some cars needing slightly less, and some slightly more.

Please note that these prices are exclusive of VAT (UK Customers ONLY) and any additional customs or handling charges that may be incurred during shipping. These prices are given as an approximation only.

For further information about shipping, and to learn more about how our shipping costs are calculated, please read our Shipping and Delivery guide.

Brexit

You can read a full guide to Brexit and JSM here.

To briefly summarise the details…

As of January 2021, the UK is no longer part of the European Union (EU). As a result, several changes have been implemented which affects how EU based customers now purchase things from the UK. Here is a brief overview…

The UK Value Added Tax (VAT @ 20%) is no longer applicable to any customers purchasing from outside the UK, assuming these goods leave the UK. To clarify, no VAT (20%) will be charged on initial purchase for any goods leaving the UK.

Instead your local country tax is charged upon importation into that country. This is based on the value of the goods as stated on the customs Invoice we supply. For most European countries – the result of this change is minimal as most local taxes range between 17% and 22% for the large majority of EU based countries. Note that some countries have lower tax rates, and others have higher, this is purely a guideline.

You will be contacted by a customs official upon arrival of the parcels to the destination country – and they will request payment of these taxes.

All shipping agents levy a small administration charge for “clearing customs” normally of a value around €5 – €10.

Our products are 100% UK Manufactured, therefore our products are Tariff/Duty free – meaning that you should not incur additional tariff charges upon importation. It should be noted that we use the HS Commodity Code (Tariff Code) 8708.99.9790 “Parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of headings 8701 to 8708 > Other Parts…” – for the majority of the kits that we supply.

For any Trade or Wholesale Customers – if you provide us with your EORI number – then this is noted at the point of import, allowing you to claim back the Tax from your local government when you issue you tax returns.
