Front Seat Cover Kit (Pair)

Upon the release of the overhauled TR4 IRS – dubbed the “TR4A” – there were a number of changes made to the interior trim – including the design of the Front Seat Cushion and Backrest Squabs. Essentially continuing on with the “Late” style TR4 tubular metal seat frames – making them essentially interchangeable between the TR4 and TR4A models – the foam paddings and associated skin covers were redesigned. With a provision for clearance of the metal hood frame mechanism during erection and stowage – the backrests featured a more prominently shaped horseshoe design with a sharper outside corner and more rounded inside corner. Again, these seats did tilt forward, but did not recline back – and the same rubber diaphragms  and webbing strips were used as per the previous TR4 version. Essentially it was more of a cosmetic redesign for the TR4A seats only really affecting the foams and covers themselves.

The advent to the TR4A models saw the introduction of Vinyl (Ambla) in the seat materials for the first time during the TR production era. Despite people often confusing Vinyl with Leathercloth – it should be noted that for the TR2 to TR4 models – Leathercloth (Vynide) was the predominant material used – although often replaced with the more readily available Vinyl material these days. However, for the TR4A model – Ambla – the ICI trade name for Vinyl – was introduced as the original specification material. Some cars would have also been fitted with Leather Seat Covers – but it is worth noting that these “Leather” seats would have most likely only have been supplied in Leather on the facings of the seat, with Vinyl backs and surrounding areas. This is commonly referred to as “LeatherFaced” and should not be confused with Full Leather, which JSM can also offer. In keeping with the proceeding models – the Piping/Beading was originally supplied in White for the large majority of the cars that left the production line. This White piping would only be applicable to the “outside” horseshoe areas of the Seats, with the inner horseshoe sections made in a matching colour to the main trim colour.
