With the introduction of the TR6, various changes were implemented by German engineering firm Karmann including elements of the bodywork and interior trim such as the hardtop section – which was still an optional extra from the factory. Very much carrying on where the earlier TR Surrey Top had left off – this hardtop now included the rear screen and b post windows as part of the main section – supplied as one piece, which was detachable from the car for storage. This update effectively meant that when in use, your car was a fixed-head two-seater sports car, or when removed it was a fully convertible open-two seater; with no in-between option available for the TR6.

Although not as widely seen as the earlier TR4-TR250 “Surrey Top” styling – the TR6 hardtop is still something that you see from time to time. For the first fifty thousand or so cars, the inside lining of this hard top roof assembly was upholstered in a Black PVC material; with some speculation over a few cars leaving with White PVC. In 1970, and onwards from this year – the majority of the hardtops would have left with a Beige PVC material. It should be noted that “beige” is a very ambiguous reference – with the reality being that this colour was much more of a “dirty” off-white material, based on the original samples and examples that we have access to. Differing from the earlier cars – this hardtop headlining included the materials for the rear quarter windows already sewn and attached to the main roof lining section. In addition to this, a matching material was used to re-trim the cover panels for the rear shelf at the base of the hardtop windows – as well as the b post quarter light upright supports. Following a very similar concept to the earlier surrey top cars – the main headliner section featured sewn scrim loops on the reverse of the headliner – to allow the rails/rods to be inserted during the fitment process.

Over our 40 years of production, John Skinner Ltd has manufactured countless numbers of these Headliner kits to clients all over the world. Our templates for this specific part have been replicated using original factory doner cars, of which John himself has owned various models – enabling us to try and test the fitment of this panel first hand. As a result of this first-hand experience, we have also updated our kits to make the parts wider and longer than they need to be – enabling for the excess material to used to pull and stretch easily during the fitment process – before being trimmed off at the final stage. This depth of knowledge and updating of patterns and designs due to both first-hand experience as well as constructive feedback from our worldwide base of clients has made John Skinner Ltd the leading manufacturer of interior trim and upholstery for the Triumph TR range; with a history of manufacturing the same parts spanning more than 40 years.

UK: £10.50 – £20 per box

Europe & European Union: £20 – £120 per box

North America & Canada: £28.50 – £125 per box

Rest of World: £42.50 – £200 per box

Brexit

You can read a full guide to Brexit and JSM here.

To briefly summarise the details…

As of January 2021, the UK is no longer part of the European Union (EU). As a result, several changes have been implemented which affects how EU based customers now purchase things from the UK. Here is a brief overview…

The UK Value Added Tax (VAT @ 20%) is no longer applicable to any customers purchasing from outside the UK, assuming these goods leave the UK. To clarify, no VAT (20%) will be charged on initial purchase for any goods leaving the UK.

Instead your local country tax is charged upon importation into that country. This is based on the value of the goods as stated on the customs Invoice we supply. For most European countries – the result of this change is minimal as most local taxes range between 17% and 22% for the large majority of EU based countries. Note that some countries have lower tax rates, and others have higher, this is purely a guideline.

You will be contacted by a customs official upon arrival of the parcels to the destination country – and they will request payment of these taxes.

All shipping agents levy a small administration charge for “clearing customs” normally of a value around €5 – €10.

Our products are 100% UK Manufactured, therefore our products are Tariff/Duty free – meaning that you should not incur additional tariff charges upon importation. It should be noted that we use the HS Commodity Code (Tariff Code) 8708.99.9790 “Parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of headings 8701 to 8708 > Other Parts…” – for the majority of the kits that we supply.

For any Trade or Wholesale Customers – if you provide us with your EORI number – then this is noted at the point of import, allowing you to claim back the Tax from your local government when you issue you tax returns.
