Triumph was one of the first sports car manufacturers to commonly use the Hood Frame Cover on their cars as a stowage cover for the framework of the convertible top. Sometimes referred to as “hoodstick covers” or “top frame covers” or “envelope covers” – this is the pre-sewn material cover that is used to hide away and cover up the folded down metal framework of your soft top hood. On the early TR models, the Convertible Hood cover had to be removed from the frame prior to folding the frame away behind the seats and covering using this Hood Frame Cover.

During the period from 1953 to 1962 – there were two designs used by Triumph, albeit you would be hard pushed to tell the difference between these two designs; but luckily we do! This change occurred during the TR3A era around chassis number TS41,743. The change was very subtle and is related to the corner tails around the B Post area of the car. As with the other weather equipment items, the fixings changed at some point during the production of these parts – with “baby” tenax fixings initially being used, before being updated to the standard size tenax fasteners – and again updated to Lift-a-Dot fasteners further into the production run.

The majority of Triumph TRs left the factory with PVC Hooding – this is effectively a pvc vinyl plastic material with a waterproof membrane, and featuring a grain in the surface of the material to imitate vinyl/leather. The actual material used was Everflex (known as “British Everflex”) – which was an ICI trade name for PVC Hooding (think “sticky tape” and “sellotape”!). Some special-order models may have left with Deluxe Mohair Canvas. Regardless of the material used, the colour of this cover would have always match the colour of the Convertible Soft Top Hood and Tonneau covers when leaving the original factory production line.

Here at John Skinners, we are one of the only companies to acknowledge the small update made around TS41k, and can offer both varieties. Both covers have been templated using original factory designs – and we have been used the same patterns to great success for many years now. A popular “JS Bespoke” option is to have this part made in either Vinyl/Leathercloth or Leather – so that both the colour and material exactly match the interior trim items. It is worth remembering that this Hood Frame Cover is only ever on show with the interior trim – and therefore it makes sense to consider matching it to that interior trim. Unlike the other weather equipment parts – this part does not need to be waterproof…if this part is getting wet, you have bigger issues on your hands!!

You may wish to consider our Convertible Soft Top Hood and Tonneau Cover to complete the external “Weather Equipment” set.

Due to industry-wide inconsistencies in production and record-keeping, it is widely accepted that the interpretation of original shades varies depending on who you ask. As a result, John Skinner Ltd offers multiple “original” shade options for you to make your final choice from. Below is a list of these accepted “original” colour choices that John Skinners can offer for your Triumph restoration project.

Due to the range of products we offer, and our worldwide customer base, we can only calculate an accurate shipping cost once Your Quote has been received by our Sales Team. As there is no payment required at this stage – use our online shop in full confidence, with zero commitment to purchase – and send us your Quotation request for your interior trim requirements; and we will get in touch directly with you with an updated Quote, which will include the shipment costs.

In the meantime, basic guideline shipping costs are outlined below.

(For all non-UK shipments – the final price per box depends on the size of the box – which is dictated by the items in your final selection)

UK: £10.50 – £20 per box

Europe & European Union: £20 – £120 per box

North America & Canada: £28.50 – £125 per box

Rest of World: £42.50 – £200 per box

Generally speaking, a complete car interior kit (Trim Panels, Carpets, Seat Covers, Boot/Trunk area, Soft Top Hoods etc) normally requires 2 x FULL Size Boxes, with some cars needing slightly less, and some slightly more.

Please note that these prices are exclusive of VAT (UK Customers ONLY) and any additional customs or handling charges that may be incurred during shipping. These prices are given as an approximation only.

For further information about shipping, and to learn more about how our shipping costs are calculated, please read our Shipping and Delivery guide.

Brexit

You can read a full guide to Brexit and JSM here.

To briefly summarise the details…

As of January 2021, the UK is no longer part of the European Union (EU). As a result, several changes have been implemented which affects how EU based customers now purchase things from the UK. Here is a brief overview…

The UK Value Added Tax (VAT @ 20%) is no longer applicable to any customers purchasing from outside the UK, assuming these goods leave the UK. To clarify, no VAT (20%) will be charged on initial purchase for any goods leaving the UK.

Instead your local country tax is charged upon importation into that country. This is based on the value of the goods as stated on the customs Invoice we supply. For most European countries – the result of this change is minimal as most local taxes range between 17% and 22% for the large majority of EU based countries. Note that some countries have lower tax rates, and others have higher, this is purely a guideline.

You will be contacted by a customs official upon arrival of the parcels to the destination country – and they will request payment of these taxes.

All shipping agents levy a small administration charge for “clearing customs” normally of a value around €5 – €10.

Our products are 100% UK Manufactured, therefore our products are Tariff/Duty free – meaning that you should not incur additional tariff charges upon importation. It should be noted that we use the HS Commodity Code (Tariff Code) 8708.99.9790 “Parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of headings 8701 to 8708 > Other Parts…” – for the majority of the kits that we supply.

For any Trade or Wholesale Customers – if you provide us with your EORI number – then this is noted at the point of import, allowing you to claim back the Tax from your local government when you issue you tax returns.
