Please note that the colour names refer to internal John Skinner Ltd names, not necessarily the names Austin Healey originally used for these colours.

Due to industry-wide inconsistencies in production and record-keeping, it is widely accepted that the interpretation of original shades varies depending on who you ask. As a result, John Skinner Ltd offers multiple “original” shade options for you to make your final choice from. Below is a list of these accepted “original” colour choices that John Skinners can offer for your Healey restoration project.

What materials are available?

We can manufacture the all weather equipment parts in either PVC Hooding or Mohair Canvas Hooding.

What material is original for this model of car?

PVC Hooding was original for the Austin Healey models. Some cars may have left the factory with Mohair versions for special order requests.

Do you offer different qualities of materials?

There are different materials available on the market – but JSM only offers two options in order to guarantee our customers products made in only the highest quality raw materials. For the PVC Hooding we only use the top of the range “British Everflex PQ” (Premium Quality) version, and for the Mohair we use the Deluxe Mohair Canvas (“DMC”). Note that “Stayfast” Mohair Canvas (“SMC”) is widely used in this industry – but we prefer not to use this as it is a thinner and slightly less premium version of DMC.

Is this Tonneau Cover edged?

Yes, this Tonneau Cover features pre-sewn binding (edging) around the outside edges of the Tonneau, as per original specifications for these models.

Does it include a pre-sewn steering wheel pocket?

Unlike the earlier Healey models – this Tonneau Cover does not include a “pocket” to house the steering wheel. Instead, it features “darts” sewn into this same area to allow the steering wheel to sit comfortably underneath, without the need for a physical pocket.

How is this Tonneau secured to the car at the rear?

The BJ7/BJ8 Tonneau Cover rear edge includes a raised surround section to accommodate the folded hood frame metalwork; which was a new feature to last Healeys off the production line. There are a couple of Tenax fixings on the outer points of the Tonneau holding it in place, with the rest of the rear section of the Tonneau keeping its shape and placement due to the stiffening material that is sewn in on the underside of the cover.

Are all the fixings included?

We supply a bag of loose fixings, including 4 x female Tenax (2pc) fixings, 10 x female Lift-A-Dot (2pc), and 4 x female Hood Stud (2pc) fixings. We do not include any male bodywork fixings as part of this particular kit. Please see our Handbook area for more details.

What are the small flaps towards the back of the Tonneau Cover?

These small square flaps are to allow the seat (safety) belts to pass through them, if the Tonneau Cover was partially open and folded back. What are the larger rectangular flaps toward the front of the car for? These flaps are retaining flaps, used to secure the Tonneau Cover to the corresponding fixings located on the Lower Rear Bulkhead (“Kick Pan”) below the Rear Seat Cushions. This allows you to keep the Tonneau on the car whilst covering and protecting the Rear Seats only, leaving the Front Seats uncovered.

Does the zipper have a flap to cover and protect it?

These Tonneau Covers are manufactured and supplied as per original specifications, and so they do not include a zip cover flap. However, if you wish, we can add one to the Tonneau for an extra £30 (+ VAT). Please explicitly state this request when placing your order in the comments section provided.

Due to the range of products we offer, and our worldwide customer base, we can only calculate an accurate shipping cost once Your Quote has been received by our Sales Team. As there is no payment required at this stage – use our online shop in full confidence, with zero commitment to purchase – and send us your Quotation request for your interior trim requirements; and we will get in touch directly with you with an updated Quote, which will include the shipment costs.

In the meantime, basic guideline shipping costs are outlined below.

(For all non-UK shipments – the final price per box depends on the size of the box – which is dictated by the items in your final selection)

UK: £10.50 – £20 per box

Europe & European Union: £20 – £120 per box

North America & Canada: £28.50 – £125 per box

Rest of World: £42.50 – £200 per box

Generally speaking, a complete car interior kit (Trim Panels, Carpets, Seat Covers, Boot/Trunk area, Soft Top Hoods etc) normally requires 2 x FULL Size Boxes, with some cars needing slightly less, and some slightly more.

Please note that these prices are exclusive of VAT (UK Customers ONLY) and any additional customs or handling charges that may be incurred during shipping. These prices are given as an approximation only.

For further information about shipping, and to learn more about how our shipping costs are calculated, please read our Shipping and Delivery guide.

Brexit

You can read a full guide to Brexit and JSM here.

To briefly summarise the details…

As of January 2021, the UK is no longer part of the European Union (EU). As a result, several changes have been implemented which affects how EU based customers now purchase things from the UK. Here is a brief overview…

The UK Value Added Tax (VAT @ 20%) is no longer applicable to any customers purchasing from outside the UK, assuming these goods leave the UK. To clarify, no VAT (20%) will be charged on initial purchase for any goods leaving the UK.

Instead your local country tax is charged upon importation into that country. This is based on the value of the goods as stated on the customs Invoice we supply. For most European countries – the result of this change is minimal as most local taxes range between 17% and 22% for the large majority of EU based countries. Note that some countries have lower tax rates, and others have higher, this is purely a guideline.

You will be contacted by a customs official upon arrival of the parcels to the destination country – and they will request payment of these taxes.

All shipping agents levy a small administration charge for “clearing customs” normally of a value around €5 – €10.

Our products are 100% UK Manufactured, therefore our products are Tariff/Duty free – meaning that you should not incur additional tariff charges upon importation. It should be noted that we use the HS Commodity Code (Tariff Code) 8708.99.9790 “Parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of headings 8701 to 8708 > Other Parts…” – for the majority of the kits that we supply.

For any Trade or Wholesale Customers – if you provide us with your EORI number – then this is noted at the point of import, allowing you to claim back the Tax from your local government when you issue you tax returns.
