The Panel directly in front of the rear fuel tank bulkhead was a prominent interior panel for the TR4/4A, TR5/TR250, and TR6 models. Following the gentle curvature of the rear cockpit bodywork – this panel was embossed with a pattern to make it more aesthetically pleasing. Here at John Skinners, we have all the correct HF tooling for these original factory specification designs and finishes. Please see below for more in-depth descriptions, videos, and frequently asked questions (FAQs).

Despite various other internal changes to the interior trim and upholstery – the rear trim board Bulkhead Panel directly in front of the fuel/petrol tank remained unchanged between the TR4A/TR5/TR250 and TR6 models. The only slight difference during this decade long production run was a change to the pattern embossed onto this panel. Still using the HF/RF welding (High-Frequency/Radio-Frequency) technique to emboss weld line patterns – the initial TR6 cars left with the exact same vertical line pattern that had been used on the TR4A/TR5/TR250 models. It was only in 1970 (around CP/CC 50k) that this pattern was updated to a two-line horizontal pattern – which was continued until the production of the TR6s was ceased in 1976.

The panel for this rear trim board bulkhead assembly left the factory upholstered in a grained finish unsupported PVC material – often confused with Vynide (Leathercloth) which was used elsewhere in the cars. Commonly these days, this material is superseded with Vinyl (Ambla), although Leathercloth (Vynide) is still available if requested (colour dependent). Very few cars, if any, would have left with Leather panels – and if they did, this would have been a special order item. Note when “Leather” is mentioned on the heritage certificates, this is often only referring to the Seats. See our FAQs for more information. As with the earlier versions of this panel, no piping/beading was featured on this panel. It is worth keeping in mind that for the TR6 models with chassis numbers starting with “CR” or “CF” (approx 1973 onward) – Triumph updated some of their standard colour offerings for the Trim Panels and Seats to be supplied in an Ambla material with a heavy grain finish – commonly known to as “Rough Grain” (RG) – with others referring to it as “Bubble Grain / 1290 Grain”.

Our panels are templated using the original factory designs – and have been tried and tested for decades on thousands of cars around the world – with John himself owning and restoring various TRs over the years. We, at John Skinners, are also one of the only restorers in the world who can offer the original embossed HF pattern, which is a sentiment to our dedication to offering not only the best fitting items in the industry – but also the investment in the machinery and tooling to allow us to authentically reproduce the parts to the original specifications. In addition to this – we are also fully aware of the subtle, but essential difference in shape between the TR4 and TR4A/TR5/TR250/TR6 bulkhead panels. This attention to detail and in-depth knowledge, with first-hand experience of fitting these parts to the cars – further goes to illustrate why we are considered the leading interior trim manufacturers for Triumph TRs, and have been for over 40 years now.
