We were very proud to see our very own Jonathon Skinner awarded a position as one of Sports Car Market’s 40 under 40 honourees in 2021.
As the only British honouree, Jonathon took his place amongst 39 others making their mark in the classic car world by keeping heritage, history and tradition alive for the younger generation who will soon come to inherit it. Nominated anonymously by a client – it came as a welcome surprise to be made an honouree – giving merit to the years of hard work Jonathon has put in for his customers all over the globe.
Job title / Company: Director, John Skinner (Manufacturing) Ltd.
Age: 37
Briefly tell us what you do: We manufacture interior trim kits for a very select range of classic British sports cars. Our kits include upholstery for the main interior trim panels, seat covers, carpet sets, boot/trunk areas and weather equipment items such as soft-top convertible hoods and headliners.
When did you know cars would be a career? My father set the business up four years prior to my birth, so it has always been a large factor in my life, even before I really knew and appreciated what it was.
Best day on the job: The day Jaguar Land Rover visited us to sign us off as an official supplier of their Jaguar Classic Restoration Workshop. I could certainly see how proud my father was that his little company was now supplying one of the OEM firms for the cars they originally made! The other would be the day Richard Hammond (of “Top Gear” and DriveTribe) called me on my personal phone to discuss his Jaguar XK 150 restoration kit that we had supplied to his restorer. As a respected magazine throughout the USA for the car collector’s market, news of the nomination reached many of our American customers including Mark Macy of Macy’s Garage based in Ohio.
“Congratulations on making the SCM 40 under 40 list! I had no idea you were still a “young pup”, as you conduct yourself and your business like an old pro. I guess the 37 years growing up in the business certainly taught you well.”
