As with most things in life; “preparation is everything” – ensure your seat spring coil units allow you to achieve the best finish possible by using a John Skinner Ltd kit.
Between 1953 and 1957, a total of around 22,000 cars were produced on the Triumph production line in Coventry. The TR2 and TR3 manufactured in this era used the same metal framework as one another – with the only slight difference being the adaption to allow one of the seats to “tilt” forward. The covers themselves changed very subtly around the cushion base horseshoe surround – but this did not affect the hardware that was used to upholster the Seat Covers to the frame.
These early TR models left the factory with coil spring units situated underneath the cushion base covers and foam. This spring unit made-up the bulk of the height of the fully assembled seat unit, and was a feature of many 1950s designed cars, often used in conjunction with Seat Padding Kits, as was the case with the Triumph TR2 and TR3 models.
John Skinner Ltd has offered the same seat spring units since the mid-1980s, supplying 1000s of these to car restoration projects all over the world. Unlike some much cheaper alternatives on the market which are sourced from the Far-East – our spring coils are made in the UK using a quality framework and spring coils to offer the correct resistance and core strength required in order to achieve a comfortable “ride”. Be mindful of these cheaper alternatives – as these spring parts are not just crucial to the look and finish of the Seat Covers, but also very much affect the ultimate comfort of you and your passengers when using the seats. Trust in tradition and expertise and don’t get blinded too much by price! For the best results, these spring units should be used in conjunction with a John Skinner Ltd Seat Padding Kit and Cover Kit.
