With the inclusion of a prominent centre console support bracket from the floor to dash facia – the associated gear stick boot cover was on show for the world to see. Don’t let this worn and ragged gauntlet cover ruin your interior trim. Here at John Skinners, we can offer a brand new cover in Black or other colours – in either Vinyl or Leather. Please see below for more in-depth descriptions, videos, and frequently asked questions (FAQs).

Recommended Colour Shades These are the colour shades that JSM can supply/recommend as suitable interpretations of original colours as stated on heritage certificates. Other "custom" shades also available.

On the initial release of the radically overhauled, Giovanni Michelotti designed, Triumph TR4 – the gear lever stick came directly out of the carpeted section of the gearbox transmission tunnel in the centre of the car. For this particular model, the grommet “boot” cover was a circular black rubber piece inserted through the hole in the corresponding carpet piece. However, for the later TR4A models, as well as the following TR5/250 and TR6 models – the housing of the gearshift boot was mounted in the centre console frame assembly unit. With this change also came an update to the gauntlet cover – with a sewn material cover offering a cleaner finish, more in line with the other upholstery elements of the car. As with the surrounding areas of the Dash, Console and Crash Pads – this Gear Stick Cover was supplied in Black as standard.

Templating from the original factory designs – and with tens of thousands of these sold in the 40 years we have been making these parts – John Skinners offer this pre-sewn gear lever boot gaitor in Vinyl (Ambla) or Leather – in either Black to suit originality or a custom colour scheme of your choosing. Despite the relative size of this part – we still use our premium range of raw materials to make these covers – never taking any shortcuts in the consistency of our products. It is this attitude toward even the most seemly “insignificant” parts of the car – that has allowed us to gain and maintain our reputation as the benchmark premium supplier of interior trim and upholstery for Triumph TRs.
