Albeit not the most comfortable or practical of seats – these rear bench seats fitted to the TR3A/B models made the rear deck area a little more presentable – don’t let crumbling foams spoil the look!
Unofficially dubbed the TR3″A” – September 1957 saw some fairly major modifications to the TR3 – and this included updates to the interior trim and upholstery. With a production run that lasted until 1962, over 60,000 cars were made if you include the TR3B models. The earlier TR2 and TR3 did have a factory option to fit a rear seat assembly unit – but this was extremely rare to see. Still not included as standard from the factory, Triumph did introduce a more frequently used rear seat base. Unlike its predecessor which included a cushion base and a backrest squab – the TR3A models simply had a base assembly unit, and the rear bulkhead panel doubled up as a backrest squab – albeit not the most comfortable!
This kit provides the necessary padding for inside the seat cover. Templated from the original designs – and after decades of manufacturing and fitting these exact rear seats – John Skinner Ltd has long been considered the industry benchmark in quality and finish when restoring your Triumph TR3A & TR3B rear seat assemblies. We use the correct density foam to offer the desired resistance for both comfort and a full-bodied appearance of the trimmed seat. For superior restoration results, always use this kit in conjunction with a John Skinner Ltd seat cover kit. There was a change in this Rear Seat Unit between what we refer to as the “early” and “late” TR3A models. The cars that were built before October 1959, with a chassis number prior to TS60,000, left with a sloping rear deck shelf area. For these models, the Rear Seat Cushion Cover had a “Curved” front edge. All later TR3A models, post TS60k, and all TR3B models had an altered flat rear shelf area; and for all of these models, the Rear Seat Base was changed to a “Square” front edge design.
Templated from the original factory line covers, John Skinner Ltd has been the industry benchmark in quality and finish when restoring your Triumph TR3A/B seat assembly.
