Update – Retail Customers
Following on from our message in May – we thank you for your on-going patience whilst we worked through our backorders. You will be pleased to know that we have made significant progress – and whilst we are still working through some backorders – we aim to be accepting all new retail orders again from the week commencing the 6th September 2021.
Going forward – to avoid disappointment with your restoration – we recommend that you place your order in plenty of time.
We encourage all new customers who are happy to wait to enquire using our website as follows:
Austin Healey & Triumph TR Customers – browse our extensive product library for details and pricing – selecting the products you are considering using our unique “Build a Quote” system. Once submitted, our experienced sales team can review our choices and get back in touch to discuss the finer details and send you material samples based on your choices.
Jaguar & MGA Customers – find lots of useful information and photos about the products we can offer for your restoration on the individual Model Pages for each marque/model. At the bottom of these model pages, you will find a Contact Form specific to your car – which you can fill in and submit with your restoration requirements – and one of our experienced sales team will formulate a Quote for you to get the ball rolling.
Note that all further information related to your enquiry will be processed and responded to after the 6th September 2021.
Dedicated to ensuring that you make the correct choices and most informed decisions for your restoration, our ordering process works a little differently to your average online shop.
Build your own online quotation, specific to your car and restoration requirements.
Unsure on what colours and materials you require? Not a problem…to start with, just give us a basic idea of your restorations choices – the rest can be discussed later.
Add items to your quotation commitment free, with no payment required!
All choices can be altered and changed at a later date if you wish.
The more details you can provide us with at the time of submitting your quotation, the more efficiently we can process your enquiry. This includes shipping & billing details, although no payment will be taken at this stage.
Submit your quotation online. This is not an order confirmation or commitment to purchase – this is the information we will use to ensure you have selected the correct and most appropriate items for your specific restoration.
We’ll be in touch! Within 48-72 hours of receiving your quotation, we will be back in touch to discuss and confirm the finer details of your trim requirements. At this stage we will also arrange to send material colour swatch cuttings, if required.
Feel free to view, select and submit your requirements with the peace of mind that you are not committing to anything without further correspondence with our sales team.
£18.64 – £42.07 exc. VAT UK Customers ONLY - VAT (20%) will be calculated at checkout.
With the inclusion of a prominent centre console support bracket from the floor to dash facia – the associated gear stick boot cover was on show for the world to see. Don’t let this worn and ragged gauntlet cover ruin your interior trim. Here at John Skinners, we can offer a brand new cover in Black or other colours – in either Vinyl or Leather. Please see below for more in-depth descriptions, videos, and frequently asked questions (FAQs).
On the initial release of the radically overhauled, Giovanni Michelotti designed, Triumph TR4 – the gear lever stick came directly out of the carpeted section of the gearbox transmission tunnel in the centre of the car. For this particular model, the grommet “boot” cover was a circular black rubber piece inserted through the hole in the corresponding carpet piece. However, for the later TR4A models, as well as the following TR5/250 and TR6 models – the housing of the gearshift boot was mounted in the centre console frame assembly unit. With this change also came an update to the gauntlet cover – with a sewn material cover offering a cleaner finish, more in line with the other upholstery elements of the car. As with the surrounding areas of the Dash, Console and Crash Pads – this Gear Stick Cover was supplied in Black as standard.
Templating from the original factory designs – and with tens of thousands of these sold in the 40 years we have been making these parts – John Skinners offer this pre-sewn gear lever boot gaitor in Vinyl (Ambla) or Leather – in either Black to suit originality or a custom colour scheme of your choosing. Despite the relative size of this part – we still use our premium range of raw materials to make these covers – never taking any shortcuts in the consistency of our products. It is this attitude toward even the most seemly “insignificant” parts of the car – that has allowed us to gain and maintain our reputation as the benchmark premium supplier of interior trim and upholstery for Triumph TRs.
Available in Leather or Vinyl (Ambla).
Two options of automotive-grade leather available to choose from – “grained” or “smooth” surface finish.
Supplied long enough to allow for easier fitment when fitting to the Console/Gearbox grommets.
Made in England, only 50 miles away from the original production line.
We source only the highest quality raw materials to manufacture our products – including leather from Italy and Scotland.
John Skinners offer the widest range of colour options on the market – including all the correct original colour combinations, as well as many more custom shades.
Worldwide material and colour samples service is available upon request, to ensure you get the look and finish your car deserves.
Our kits are manufactured using the same methods and templates that we have used to great success for 40+ years. Rest assured, we know they fit!
JSM has contributed to various notable Triumph restorations including TS01, and the much-publicised Triumph TR2 “Jabbeke“ MVC575 restoration project. We also worked closely with Mark Macy of Macy’s Garage (USA) on his wife’s TR4 – becoming the only Triumph TR to ever score the perfect 100-point score in the TRA Concours D’Elegance – back in 2018. Mark Macys own TR4 came in second place, at the same show – also with JSM trimmed fitted.
Access to help and advice when it comes time to fit these kits – we have been making and fitting these same parts for a long time – we know all the tricks, and we are more than happy to assist you or your trimmer should you get stuck.
Please note that the colour names refer to internal John Skinner Ltd names, not necessarily the names Triumph originally used for these colours.
Due to industry-wide inconsistencies in production and record-keeping, it is widely accepted that the interpretation of original shades varies depending on who you ask. As a result, John Skinner Ltd offers multiple “original” shade options for you to make your final choice from. Below is a list of these accepted “original” colour choices that John Skinners can offer for your Triumph restoration project.
Note that we can also offer a variety of custom “non-original” shades if you prefer a more bespoke finish. For a full and complete list of options please view our Materials & Colours library.
As part of the ordering process, we will arrange for samples to be sent for final confirmation – so browse and shop with complete peace of mind, knowing that we will guide you through step-by-step with all the information you require.
Please note that all materials are subject to colour shade differences between production batches. There may be subtle differences in colour shading between sample cuttings and final production material.
Due to the range of products we offer, and our worldwide customer base, we can only calculate an accurate shipping cost once Your Quote has been received by our Sales Team. As there is no payment required at this stage – use our online shop in full confidence, with zero commitment to purchase – and send us your Quotation request for your interior trim requirements; and we will get in touch directly with you with an updated Quote, which will include the shipment costs.
In the meantime, basic guideline shipping costs are outlined below.
(For all non-UK shipments – the final price per box depends on the size of the box – which is dictated by the items in your final selection)
UK: £10.50 – £15 per box
Europe & European Union: £20 – £75 per box
North America & Canada: £28.50 – £95 per box
Rest of World: £42.50 – £160 per box
Generally speaking, a complete car interior kit (Trim Panels, Carpets, Seat Covers, Boot/Trunk area, Soft Top Hoods etc) normally requires 2 x FULL Size Boxes, with some cars needing slightly less, and some slightly more.
Please note that these prices are exclusive of VAT (UK Customers ONLY) and any additional customs or handling charges that may be incurred during shipping. These prices are given as an approximation only.
For further information about shipping, and to learn more about how our shipping costs are calculated, please read our Shipping and Delivery guide.
As of January 2021, the UK is no longer part of the European Union (EU). As a result, several changes have been implemented which affects how EU based customers now purchase things from the UK. Here is a brief overview…
The UK Value Added Tax (VAT @ 20%) is no longer applicable to any customers purchasing from outside the UK, assuming these goods leave the UK. To clarify, no VAT (20%) will be charged on initial purchase for any goods leaving the UK.
Instead your local country tax is charged upon importation into that country. This is based on the value of the goods as stated on the customs Invoice we supply. For most European countries – the result of this change is minimal as most local taxes range between 17% and 22% for the large majority of EU based countries. Note that some countries have lower tax rates, and others have higher, this is purely a guideline.
You will be contacted by a customs official upon arrival of the parcels to the destination country – and they will request payment of these taxes.
All shipping agents levy a small administration charge for “clearing customs” normally of a value around €5 – €10.
The large majority of our products are Tariff/Duty free – meaning that you should not incur additional tariff charges upon importation. It should be noted that we use the HS Commodity Code (Tariff Code) 8708.99.9790 “Parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of headings 8701 to 8708 > Other Parts…” – for the majority of the kits that we supply.
For any Trade or Wholesale Customers – if you provide us with your EORI number – then this is noted at the point of import, allowing you to claim back the Tax from your local government when you issue you tax returns.
