The Rear Bulkhead Fuel Tank Panel – located on the cockpit side of the fuel tank – is on show all the time so deserves to look the part. Often damaged and wonky from years of exposure to both the sun and water from the hood frame when being stowed away – make sure you restore this part when considering any revamps to the interior trim and upholstery of your Triumph TR2. Available in a variety of materials and colours – please see below for more in-depth descriptions, videos, and frequently asked questions (FAQs).

Whilst a lot of the other interior trim and upholstery panel work stayed consistent between the TR2 and proceeding TR3 models – the cockpit side petrol tank bulkhead board did differ. From 1953 to October of 1955 around 8600 TR2 models left the factory production line in Coventry, and these cars were fitted with a quite deep rear bulkhead panel, following the shape of the fuel tank situated behind it.

Manufactured in millboard, and with a riveted metal strip on the rear of the panel to help maintain its shape – the front fuel tank bulkhead cover left the factory upholstered in Vynide (Leathercloth). Commonly these days, this material is superseded with Vinyl (Ambla), although Leathercloth (Vynide) is still available if requested (colour dependent). Very few cars, if any, would have left with Leather panels – and if they did, this would have been a special order item. Note when “Leather” is mentioned on the heritage certificates, this is often referring to the Seats and some of the Cappings around the cockpit of the car. See our FAQs for more information.

Our panels are templated using the original factory designs – and have been tried and tested for decades on thousands of cars around the world. This bulkhead panel includes riveted metal bracket on the rear, along with the associated trimmed ends used to locate the centre tonneau capping underneath it. It is no secret that these cars were manufactured during an era of inconsistent mass production techniques. As a result of this – we can never wholeheartedly say our panels fit 100% of the time – this would be foolish! However, due to decades of production of these parts and feedback from our clients and professional fitters – we are confident that we do offer the most consistent and best-fitting panels on the market. In addition to this, we offer after-sale support for those who require further assistance should any issues be encountered during the fitment process. Needless to say, this approach to manufacture has made John Skinner Ltd the industry benchmark in quality and finish for your Triumph TR2 and TR3 interior trim panels.
